How ScribeCount uses cookies and similar tracking technologies

Effective date: May 1, 2026  ·  ScribeCount LLC, Florida

This Cookie Policy explains how ScribeCount LLC ("ScribeCount," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our marketing website at scribecount.com, our author portal at portal.scribecount.com, and through ScribeCount Email (collectively, the "Platform").

This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which provides broader context about how we collect, use, and protect personal information.

1. What Cookies Are and How They Work

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit it. Cookies are widely used to make websites function correctly and to provide information to the website's operators. They cannot execute programs or deliver viruses to your device.

In addition to cookies, the Platform uses:

  • Web beacons (tracking pixels): Tiny invisible images that confirm when a page or email has been accessed. ScribeCount Email uses tracking pixels to record email open events on behalf of Authors.
  • Local storage and session storage: Browser-based storage used for session management and preference storage within the Platform portal.
  • Log files: Server-side records of requests including IP addresses, browser types, and timestamps.

2. Categories of Cookies We Use

Category 1 — Strictly Necessary

Essential for the Platform to function (authentication, session security, load balancing, fraud prevention). These cannot be disabled through our consent management platform. No consent required.

Category 2 — Functional

Enable enhanced functionality and personalization — remembering your language preference, dashboard layout, or display settings. Disabling these may affect the quality of your experience. Consent required where required by applicable law.

Category 3 — Analytics and Performance

Help us understand how visitors interact with the Platform. Data is used in aggregated or anonymized form to improve Platform performance, usability, and content. Analytics cookies do not identify you personally. Consent required for EEA and UK visitors.

Category 4 — Marketing and Advertising

Track visits across websites to build interest profiles and enable relevant advertising. Placed only with your explicit consent. Refusing consent will not affect your ability to use the Platform. Explicit consent required.

3. Email Tracking Pixels — ScribeCount Email

When Authors use open tracking in ScribeCount Email, outgoing emails contain a tracking pixel that records an open event when the email is loaded. The pixel records: confirmation of the open event, approximate date and time, IP address, email client and device type, and approximate geographic location.

Limitations: Apple's Mail Privacy Protection (MPP) pre-fetches email content — including tracking pixels — regardless of whether the recipient actually opens the email. Open rates may be inflated for subscribers using Apple Mail. ScribeCount recommends that Authors weight click rate and conversion rate more heavily than open rate.

Open tracking can be disabled at the account level or per-campaign in ScribeCount Email Settings > Tracking.

How readers can limit email tracking: Enable Mail Privacy Protection in Apple Mail; configure your email client to block remote image loading; use a privacy-focused email client that blocks tracking pixels by default.
